As I was listening to Al Franken’s audiobooks, especially the section on President George W. Bush, the following questions kept echoing in my head:
If you make false statement enough times, do they become fact? Bush – YES
If you declare the fact to be a lie, does it become one? Republicans – YES
Do I want to live in a reality-based community or a consensus-based reality?
I think truth is the interpretation of fact. The fact is not a lie, but different people may weight it differently or apply it to different circumstances. You cannot do the opposite. You cannot claim to be telling the truth under any circumstance that isn’t based on fact, i.e. you cannot base truth on lies or belief or faith.
