Authentic Happiness

Today, my coworkers and I went to one of our computer classrooms and took an online test after the staff meeting.  The test rates your character strengths in order from 1 – 24.  The free version doesn’t tell you how heavily they are weighted (i.e. the margin of difference between traits), but it does place the in order from the strongest to the weakest.  Six months ago, I took this test after a discussion in another training session.  My results were largely the same with certain traits moving up or down one or two places:

February 2017
Top Strength:  Love of learning – You love learning new things, whether in a class or on your own.  You have always loved school, reading, and museums – anywhere and everywhere there is an opportunity to learn.
Second Strength:  Judgment, critical thinking, and open-mindedness – Thinking things through and examining them from all sides are important aspects of who you are. You do not jump to conclusions, and you rely only on solid evidence to make your decisions.  You are able to change your mind.
Third Strength:  Fairness, equity, and justice – Treating all people fairly is one of your abiding principles.  You do not let your personal feelings bias your decisions about other people.  You give everyone a chance.
24th Strength:  Zest, enthusiasm, and energy – Regardless of what you do, you approach it with excitement and energy.  You never do anything halfway or halfheartedly.  For you, life is an adventure.

If you’d like to take this test too, just follow these instructions:
– Go to Authentic Happiness link (www.authentichappiness.sas.upenn.edu)
– Go to LOGIN and then REGISTER (unless you’ve used it before)
– Once registered with a free account, click on THE VIA SURVEY OF CHARACTER STRENGTHS (about half way down the second section)
– Work through the 240 questions as honestly and accurately as possible.  Is the behavior like you?  Or not like you?
– Once finished answering all the questions, you can print your results. (You must expand the results to see ALL twenty-four of the items.)
