Trump’s choice of agency heads, cabinet members and advisors is unbelievable. People know government officials and transactions are sometimes less than ethical and sometimes obviously corrupt. They try to hide them though. Now, we have open corruption and we don’t have to worry about anyone’s ethics. The new ethics is to be openly corrupt instead of hiding it. Better known crimes than hidden crimes? Better openly corrupt politicians than deceptive ones?
If the ethics rules don’t apply to the President, then why should they apply to other members of government? And why not just gut the agencies supposed to be enforcing rules that the President, politicians and special interests don’t like? If the President refuses to provide the information for full verification and evaluation, then why should anyone else? Disclose and divest is a criminal statute and partial disclosure or declining pay doesn’t make anyone exempt.
