When enough people are fed up, unusual things happen. The thing we all have to remember is that voting for the lesser of two evils is still better than failing to vote. When you fail to vote, you get Trump.
I’ve been aware of past calls for Presidents Bill Maher and Stephen Colbert. Neither took it seriously. After Oprah’s speech at the Golden Globes, we have a call for President Oprah Winfrey. Maybe that’s possible. She runs with an experienced progressive vice president and the “Trump-lash” might be able to bet both a woman of color elected. That’s only significant if we also elect a Senate and House that will work together with her.
#MeToo was celebrated at the Golden Globes with celebrities wearing black and #TimesUp pins, inviting activists as their guests, and speaking out in their speeches. Seth Meyers was an awesome host and pulled no punches. Speaking out without the fear of retribution (especially when Trump is attacking free speech and assembly, destroying the environment and public health, promoting racism and sexism, and restricting human rights at home and abroad) is a rallying cry for us all.
Who knows what could happen if we all refuse to be silenced … if we all acted instead of dropping out …
