Single or Solo

What’s the difference between being single and going solo.  I believe that “being single” implies a goal of becoming a couple.  You are either actively or passively looking for romance.  You want to integrate your life with the life of someone else.  You are part of a missing whole.  “Going solo” means you are self-sufficient.  You accept, and even seek, companionship.  But it is neither necessary or pursued.  You do the things you want to do when you want to do them.  While going solo has its own constraints (nobody to split responsibilities or cover emergencies), you set your own limits.
